FAQS

By offering innovative, quality workmanship & compliance advice on passive fire protection systems. True Seal thrives on creating solutions for clients to save them program time and overall costs.

The NCC states that a pipe system compromised entirely of metal must have the relevant insulation criteria to meet the FRL requirements, as per section C3.15. It also states a metal pipe cannot pass through more than 2 fire compartments without the insulation criteria met.

You chose the right material by initially considering what Fire Resistance Level (FRL) you are trying to achieve. Other aspects you may want to consider would be:

  • The type of construction you are using it in (Building element) eg; masonry, plasterboard or concretes
  • The size and thickness of your construction
  • The durability and practicality of the product in its environment
  • Aesthetic or design finishes

Passive fire protection can be a costly job if not thought out and commenced right from the start, or neglected during the building stage. But most importantly the biggest COST of not passively sealing your building can be the loss of lives, buildings, and assets.

An intumescent is a unique product that swells as a result of heat exposure, thus increasing in volume to effectively play its role. The intumescent layer will expand its original thickness multiple times protecting the opening in the structure from the spread of fire.

Base line data is a requirement from AS 4072.1 which stipulates all fire stopping elements are to be logged and recorded after installation. These logs are to be supplied to the owner/builder on completion of the installation. AS 1851 requires base line data for all routine inspections.
